Memphis Bleek was so young that he doesn't even remember when he first met Jay-Z. Even though Hov has quite a few years on his rap protégé, Bleek has long been a father, so watching Big Poppa Hov has been interesting.
"It's weird, it's funny," Memph said of watching Jay interact with daughter Blue Ivy when he appeared on Wednesday's "RapFix Live." "Seeing my man do his first burp, in my eyes, it's a new thing and I love it. Fatherhood, it's nothing like it. ... Their brain is a sponge, and anything you teach 'em, they gonna learn and carry for the rest of their life."
Bleek takes being a dad seriously. He even fell back a bit in the music world to focus on his home life. "I've been in the cut, raising my son, doing the family thing and leaving music on the backburner a little bit," he said.
Jay, too, has admitted that he's taken some studio time off since his baby was born, though he hasn't taken a full-on hiatus from rap. "I thought I would be more inspired with all the new feelings and everything that I'd have to write about, but it really happened the other way," Jay told us in May. "I just really wanna hang out with her. I just wanna enjoy those moments for a bit, and I'm sure that feeling of music will come back to me."
Still, Blue has already inspired some pretty cool raps from her dad. Days after the baby was born, Jigga dropped "Glory," a track dedicated to and featuring his daughter. More recently, on Rick Ross' "3 Kings," Hov brags of all the artwork hanging in Blue's room. "N---as couldn't walk in my daughter's socks/ Banksys, bitches, Basquiats," he spits on the Jake One-produced track.
No wonder the Coming of Age MC got such a kick out of the first time he met baby Blue in Hov's Roc Nation offices. "She runs the office already," he said, laughing. "She could tear down the whole building; who gonna say what? Blue got drivers, security — she poppin'."
