LAYTON — A brush fire in Davis County foothills have forced mandatory evacuations starting Saturday evening.
The evacuation is in effect for the next 24 hours for residents of 24 homes in the Layton Ridge Subdivision development community.
The fire sparked around 6 p.m. east of Highway 89 and State Road.
The fire is about five acres according to Forest Service authorities.
At the request of Davis County the Utah Red Cross will open an evacuation center for evacuees in Northridge High School, 2430 North Hill Field Road.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
