Reports of mass killings by Syrian army in Treimsa

The Revolution Leadership Council of Hama said the Sunni Muslim village of Treimsa in Syria was assaulted by helicopter gunships and tanks and that pro-government Alawite militiamen then stormed in and carried out execution-style killings.

Amateur video, reported to have been shot in Treimsa on Thursday, shows a man wounded in what activists said was an attack by the Syrian army and residents of the village fleeing.

If confirmed, it would be the worst single incident of violence in 16 months of conflict in which rebels are fighting to topple President Bashar al-Assad and diplomacy to halt the bloodshed has been stymied by deadlock between world powers.

The state-run SANA news service confirmed fighting in Treimsa saying three security personnel had been killed in fighting in Treimsa and accusing "armed terrorist groups" of committing a massacre there.

Neither the reports nor the amateur videos could be independently confirmed.
