Australian women's hockey coach Adam Commens has named an inexperienced squad of 16 for the London Games, with nine players to make their Olympic debuts.
The Hockeyroos finished fifth at the Beijing and Athens Games and it will be a new-look squad with an average age of 25 aiming to make amends in London.
Captain Madonna Blyth headlines the seven in the squad with Olympic experience, while Teneal Attard will back up from Beijing after undergoing three knee reconstructions.
Goalkeeper Toni Cronk is the only survivor from the team that beat New Zealand in the fifth-place play-off at the 2004 Games.
Kobie McGurk, last year named in the Federation of International Hockey's World All Stars team, will lead the side's defence.
Veteran midfielder Hope Munro returns to the squad after retiring on the eve of the World Cup in 2010 to spend more time with her young family.
The 31-year-old picked up her hockey stick in 2011 shortly after Commens took over the reins and has impressed since.
NSW defender Kate Jenner will make her Olympic debut and is charged with the difficult task of filling the void left by Jade Warrender, who ruptured her anterior cruciate ligament in May.
Strike forward Ashleigh Nelson, who debuted for the Hockeyroos in 2007 but was overlooked for the Beijing Games, will also appear at her first Olympics.
Commens' charges slumped to a 4-1 loss to the Netherlands in the final of the London Cup last week, and he said the squad will need to improve before starting their Games campaign on July 29 with a fixture against New Zealand.
"We believe in this group, but we know the next six weeks are so important to our Olympic campaign," Commens said.
"We have identified the areas we need to dramatically improve on if we are to challenge for a medal at the Games."
