More than 60 beacons will be lit around Suffolk on Monday night to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

Town councils, businesses, communities and churches will light the torches between 22:00 and 22:30 BST.

In Ipswich, a volunteer from the town's winter night shelter has been given the honour of lighting a beacon at Christchurch Park.

Paul Herbert said he was "gobsmacked" to have received the recognition for his work for homeless people.

"It's quite daunting to think that I'm going to help light the official beacon," he said.

Fireworks will follow the lighting of the beacon.

'Alternative Jubilee'

In Woodbridge, a beacon is being lit at Kingston playing field.

There will also be a fireworks display by the riverside and also an alternative Jubilee party at the Tea Hut.

Mark Moore from S Express will join Ben Osborne and other DJs for the Jubilee Curiosity Disco, which is also marking 175 years since Queen Victoria inherited the throne in 1837.

Philip Hope-Cobbold has invited people to his Glemham Hall estate, in Little Glemham, for the lighting of a beacon.

"The beacon is going to be about 80ft up on the roof of the house, looking out towards the A12", he said.

He said the pageant master of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Beacons, Bruno Peek, had given him strict instructions.

"My beacon lighting time, that I've had from Bruno Peek, is precisely 10.01pm - no earlier, no later," he said.

Beacons will be lit in other locations around the county including at Beck Row, Bacton, Hartest, Stoke by Nayland, Kettleburgh and Brandon.

In Pakefield, a candlelit service will take place at 22:00 BST on the cliff top near the Trowel and Hammer pub, before the lighting of the beacon at 22:15 BST.

A brass band will accompany the lighting of a beacon at the cliff top car park in Felixstowe.

The Queen will light the National Beacon at 22:30 BST in London following a music concert outside Buckingham Palace.

Guest on Royal Barge at Diamond Jubilee pageant 'was sex offender'

“I was given the invitation and I attended," he said.

"The fact that the Prince of Wales invited me clearly shows what I have done for the community since then.”

Mr Singh Rana, who lives in Walsall in the West Midlands, added: "I don’t know what checks they do or how they do them.”

Steve McCabe, MP for Birmingham Selly Oak, who sits on the Home Affairs select committee, said he was "flabbergasted" by the "astonishing" security lapse.

“There should be a police investigation into how this was allowed to happen. Who the prince wants to entertain in private is his concern, but this was a public event. Questions need to be answered," he said.

Mr Singh Rana was convicted of five counts of indecent assault, 11 counts of assault causing actual bodily harm and one count of attempted assault in August 1986.

At his trial, the court heard he posed as a doctor to con his way into the women's homes before subjecting them to internal examinations and giving them injections.

Faced with opposition to his inclusion on the Inner Cities Religious Council from the Sikh Secretariat in 2002, Mr Singh Rana said: "I have never tried to hide my convictions, even though the evidence presented was contentious. Are they saying rehabilitation and forgiveness should not exist? What I should be judged on is the work I've done in the Sikh community since that date."
