Hands-On With Cadillac's New 600-Horsepower CTS-V

Plenty of cars can boast 600-horsepower engines. Now, there's one from Cadillac.

General Motors' blue-chip brand unveiled its most powerful model ever at the auto show in Detroit this week, the CTS-V. Basically, the brand took its midsize sedan and fitted it with a massive V-8 engine, special racing seats, and giant brakes, while swapping out much of the metal for carbon fiber.

According to many critics, Cadillac has been matching the performance of its luxury rivals for a couple of years. But the brand still fights its reputation as a cushy cruiser for senior citizens in Middle America. GM has spent piles of money on ads designed to persuade drivers otherwise. Nothing, however, has been as compelling as the CTS-V.
