Only one can go home with the Best New Artist Moonman on September 6, 2012, and Owl City is betting that it's going to be his "Good Time" pal, Carly Rae Jepsen, who is up for the video for her inescapable jam, "Call Me Maybe."
While she faces some fierce competition from the likes of Fun. (featuring Janelle Monae, "We Are Young"), Frank Ocean ("Swim Good"), One Direction ("What Makes You Beautiful") and The Wanted ("Glad You Came"), OC's Adam Young knows why the "Call Me Maybe" singer will leave the Staples Center victorious.
"[Her chances are] pretty good. They're all good, but I'm rooting for her," he told MTV News, noting the qualities that will make Carly Rae 2012's Best New Artist, the same prize her boss Justin Bieber won back in 2010. "It's sincerity. She's genuine. I don't know what it is. The song is really catchy, but she is really amazing. She fits that song."
He further gushed, "Who else could sing that song? It's her song. It's her. It's her, in music form."
While the duo recorded their own track, "Good Time," earlier this year, they hadn't actually met until they shot their video in upstate New York back in July. And, Carly Rae lived up to all his expectations. "I felt like I had known her forever," he explained. "She is such a sweet person. She's just fun to be around."
