The Nigeria Police Force headquarters on Thursday said that none of the Nigerian policemen sent on peacekeeping missions was rejected by the United Nations for performing poorly.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Joint African Union/United Nations Special Representative, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, had spoken on the development in an interview published on Monday in the UN News Centre.
But the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Frank Mba, told NAN in a telephone interview that its personnel were not among the Nigerian troops recently sent back home.
“No Nigeria police officer sent for peacekeeping mission anywhere in the world was repatriated for poor performance.
“All our men are doing pretty well. When they are done, we will send more, as required by the UN. We have not received any complaint against any officer,” Mba added.
NAN reports that Gamabri, head of the UN Mission in Darfur, had described the development as “a sad experience.”
He regretted that some of the deployments sent to the UN, included “sadly from the Nigerian contingent, which have not really performed up to par.”
Gambari was, however, quoted as saying, “Fortunately, the Nigerian government has really addressed the issue. They repatriated the battalion and are preparing to send new ones.”
