Jefferson Elementary School in the Ken-Ton School District is being recommended for closure in 2013-14.
School Superintendent Mark P. Mondanaro has called a meeting for parents and staff this afternoon at the Athens Boulevard building.
Tuesday night, he will make a formal recommendation to the School Board.
"They will vote one way or the other," Mondanaro said this morning.
Jefferson is one of eight elementary schools in the district, which has seen a steady decrease in enrollment.
During a June meeting of the School Board, the superintendent presented the objectives that he would consider in making his recommendation. Enrollment and operating costs were among them.
"That's exactly what I followed," Mondanaro said.
In a separate, but related, matter, Mondanaro also is expected to issue a recommendation Tuesday about hiring an outside consulting firm to study mid- to long-range consolidation or redistricting. Two firms submitted proposals for that study.
