Britain have equalled their total of 19 gold medals from the Beijing Olympics after Alistair Brownlee's triumph in the triathlon on day 11 of London 2012.
His brother Jonny took bronze, taking the total to 42 medals, just five short of the 2008 Games mark and six off the minimum target of 48.
Further medals could follow on Tuesday in cycling, dressage and windsurfing.
But in athletics, Phillips Idowu failed to reach the triple jump final, ending his medal hopes.
Four years ago, Britain did not reach 19 golds until the final Saturday when James DeGale earned boxing victory in the men's middleweight division.
- London: 42 - 19 golds, 11 silver, 12 bronze
- Beijing: 47 - 19 golds, 13 silver, 15 bronze
Team GB are already guaranteed four further boxing medals after Anthony Joshua, Anthony Ogogo, Luke Campbell and Nicola Adams reached the respective semi-finals of their divisions. Losing semi-finalists both earn bronze in Olympic boxing.
So with those medals in the bag, Britain effectively need two more to reach their overall goal with more than five days of competition left at the London Olympics.
Jonny Brownlee could have won silver in the triathlon around Hyde Park, but he was penalised 15 seconds for boarding his bike too soon.
In cycling, Sir Chris Hoy will be aiming to win a sixth Olympic gold when he goes in the keirin, while Victoria Pendleton will compete in the individual sprint. Laura Trott is also leading the omnium with three events left.
If Hoy succeeds he will overtake Sir Steve Redgrave's record for the most GB Olympic gold medals and Pendleton would become Britain's most decorated female Olympian.
GB's dressage team could seal gold at Greenwich Park with the trio of Carl Hester, Laura Bechtolsheimer and Charlotte Dujardin holding the lead going into Tuesday's final round.
Nick Dempsey is on course to win a silver medal in the men's windsurfing in Weymouth.
In athletics, high jumper Robbie Grabarz and discus thrower Lawrence Okoye also have medal chances in their respective finals at the evening session in the Olympic Stadium, starting at 19:00 BST.
