Wine Drinking, in B-Flat Major

That A/G dissonance really rubs me the wrong way. Photo via Luna & Curious

Call it half full or half empty; either way this glass plays an E flat.

These Musical Glasses, available through Luna & Curious, are marked with the notes of a chromatic scale, making it easy to play the right notes for your glass harp orchestra.

The leaded crystal in these and some other wine glasses is what makes them reverberate when a musician (or miscreant) runs his or her finger across the rim. The markings on the side correspond to the level of fluid that produces the correct note in this specific shape and size of glass. At around $60 for a set of two, a 12-note octave is pretty expensive. But it’s also a project you can do with any wine glasses, if you have a tuner and a way to gently etch a set of normal glasses.

Either way, fill them to the appropriate level — or better yet, drink them down to it — and ask your guests to sing or play along. It may not sound quite like Igor Sklyarov, but that’s what the wine is for.
