The Katsina State Government has confirmed the infection of a two-year-old girl by wild polio virus in Karkarku Village of Sandamu Local Government Area of the state.
The Executive Chairman of the Katsina State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Mu’awuya Aliyu, made the confirmation at a press briefing on Wednesday in Katsina.
He said, “Following the discovery of the polio virus in the village where the girl was infected, we are investigating the case.”
Already he said, a team of medical personnel had been dispatched to the village.
He also said that efforts were being made to improve polio immunisation in the village and the surrounding areas, while social mobilisation was going on in the area.
“In fact a house-to-house polio immunisation will be conducted in the affected village in order to ensure that all children are immunised, he said.
On the next round of polio immunisation slated for the July 7, in the state, the chairman said, “All is now set for the flag off of the exercise in the state.”
Aliyu also said that all the polio vaccines for the exercise had been received and distributed to all the 34 local government areas of the state.
He further said that staff and other stakeholders had been mobilised to ensure the success of the exercise in the state.
