Best-selling Irish author Maeve Binchy has died after a short illness, Irish broadcaster RTE has reported.
The 72-year-old had sold more than 40 million books worldwide.
Her works included Circle of Friends, which was adapted for screen in 1995.
She is survived by her husband, writer Gordon Snell.
