Australian minister Craig Emerson performs song in support of carbon tax

Mr Emerson was asked to comment during a live interview with ABC News on the impact of a carbon tax on the South Australian mining town of Whyalla.

The leader opposition Tony Abbott has claimed the tax which forces the biggest polluters, to pay AUS$23 (£15) per metric ton of carbon dioxide emitted, will "wipe the town off the map" if implemented.

In response, Mr Emerson, launched into a rendition of 1975 song Horror Movie by Australian band Skyhooks, complete with is own self-styled lyrics and dance moves.

Mr Emerson sang enthusiastically although not entirely tunefully, "no Whyalla wipeout, there on my TV ... shocking me right out of my brain".

It is not the first time an Australian politician has made a song out of the carbon tax. Liberal Senator Mary Jo Fisher invoked the Hokey Cokey and the The Time-warp to register her opposition to it.
