Locog: missing Cameroon Olympic athletes 'have done nothing wrong'

Jackie Brock-Doyle, Locog's director of communications, was asked about investigations into the absence of seven Cameroonian athletes - five boxers, a swimmer and a football goalkeeper - who left the Olympic village without notification or permission and have not returned.

"They have been reported as missing but they have visas to stay in this country until November, so right now they haven't done anything wrong," said Brock-Doyle.

She confirmed that Cameroon's National Olympic Committee had written to Locog asking for assistance so details had been forwarded to London's Metropolitan Police but unless there is a breach of visa restrictions there is little anyone can do.

"They have written to us to say that these athletes have left the village and left their accommodation and can we help. So, we have informed the Met and we're going to do something - until, you know, November, we will do what we can obviously as a country to help, but until they actually breach their rights to be here it's quite difficult."
